A new local business is making waves in the skincare world with a fresh approach to beauty. ERLY, an innovative skincare brand founded by two friends and mothers, Jamie Chandlee and Dr. Hallie McDonald, launched in early 2025, bringing a much-needed antidote to the overwhelming noise of beauty trends and influencer-driven routines.
ERLY’s story began over coffee, sparked by a shared concern for the impact of the skincare industry on young people. Chandlee and Dr. McDonald, both parents of young daughters, identified a void in the skin care industry, which presents consumers with unattainable beauty standards that are overly complicated and often include harsh ingredients. To honor their daughter's inspiration, the company branding was derived from their names: Em[er]son and [Ly]le.
A board-certified dermatologist, Dr. McDonald has witnessed an alarming rise in young patients suffering from harmful side effects like perioral dermatitis and eczema caused by inappropriate skincare routines. “We all deserve better,” she says, and ERLY was born to deliver just that.
The brand’s name, ERLY, is not only a tribute to the founders’ daughters but also a nod to the importance of starting early with healthy skincare habits, like daily sun protection and gentle cleansing. They stand out in the skincare market with a “less is more” philosophy and a mission to simplify skincare while making it personal and effective.
“We advocate for early sun protection and celebrate real texture,” says Dr. McDonald. “Our goal is to give your skin exactly what it needs and nothing more, so you can feel good in your skin every day.”
The founders are committed to including only the best ingredients in the production of their offerings. Every product is dermatologist-developed, cruelty-free, vegan, and free of harsh ingredients like fragrances, essential oils, dyes, parabens, petrolatum, and pore-clogging substances.
ERLY’s commitment to community is deeply rooted in its Austin origins. During their kick-off year, they have hosted local events, fostering connections with parents, influencers, and students in the area.
“Social media myths are fueling skin struggles for younger generations,” says Chandlee. “At ERLY, we want to lead with education and approachable solutions that make skin habits effective for all.”
To further their community connection, Tarrytown Pharmacy, located at 2727 Exposition Blvd, is hosting a drop-in event for ERLY on September 11th at 3:00 p.m. Attendees can explore and sample the ERLY product line and meet the founders of the new Austin-based company.
