Octoberfest, benefiting Drive a Senior ATX, is Sept. 27 at First Unitarian Universalist Church at 4700 Grove Ave. Beer, live  music, German food, silent auction, raffle, $25 advance tickets, $35 at the door. Proceeds help seniors live in their homes with help: transportation, minor home repairs, friendly visits, group outings, game days gatherings, prescription deliveries. Batfest, an all day music and food festival celebrating the world’s largest urban colony of Mexican free-tail bats, is Sept 6 from 3 pm till 11 pm on Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge. Advance tickets $25, at the gate $35, children under 12 free and Children’s Area activities free of charge. Bat costume contest for adults and children. Bats fly from under the bridge beginning about 7 pm to 8:45 pm, but hard to predict, really. See roadwayevents.com

Pecan Street Festival, long-time 6th Street celebration of artisan vendors, live music, food and drink, is Sept. 13 and 14 and moved to Hill Country Galleria, at 12700 Hill Country Blvd in Bee Cave off US 71. Free admission, free parking, games and rides for the kids, 11 am to 8 pm both days, Austin’s most beloved arts and music festival celebrating 50 years. At pecanstreetfestival.org

Participating museums, at austinmuseums.org, include Thinkery, Umlauf Sculpture Garden, Texas Science & Natural History Museum at UT, Pioneer Farms, Mexic-Arte Museum, Blanton Museum of Art at UT, Bullock State History Museum – so many museums.

Shoal Creek Showdown begins

Shoal Creek Showdown between Anderson  Trojans and McCallum Knights football teams is Aug 28, the big game opener at House Park, 1309 Shoal Creek Blvd. The decades long rivalry, called Taco Shack Bowl for 22 years, is now sponsored by Legacy Turf and Greens  and its owner Eddie Joseph, who is a graduate of Anderson and whose sons also attended Anderson.

KidsActing Studio has opened its new theatre at The Linc, 6406 N. IH 35, Ste 2150, behind ACC Highland.   The 160-seat theatre  will host kidsActing’s full scale productions, including dress rehearsals and performances after the students rehears once a week at one  of the 12 locations around Austin.
