I’ve enjoyed getting my vegetables from a Community Supported Agriculture local farm for years. For about a decade my vegetables came from Johnson’s Backyard Garden, and for the last year from Good Apple and then New Leaf Agriculture.
I fell totally in love with New Leaf Agriculture when I learned that the farm is part of Austin’s nonprofit Multicultural Refugee Coalition and provides “dignified, fair-wage work” to refugees, most of them farmers in their homelands. Multicultural Refugee Coalition also has a textile side, called Open Arms Studio that provides advanced sewing training and fair-wage employment for refugees...
